review excerpt from hellridemusic.com/J snyder:

"...pinnacle of vile, vomit-drenched death/grind. Armed with a particularly appropriate, lo-fi recording job, the band bulldozes through short blasts of speed-injected, Conserta snortin’ rage that runs the gamut from short, less than a minute to slightly over a minute explosions (filled with blasting grind, throttling death metal, and crusty punk), to epic-minded pieces with clean guitars, and off-kilter, jazzed-out hysterics. Along the way we’re occasionally gutted like cattle with a sloth-y sludge break, treated to some insane, and completely deranged guitar hysterics (the genius of early Cephalic Carnage shines through this crusty, cacophonous din on occasion), or tormented by oddball interludes featuring electronics, noise, chanting vocals, free-jazz experimentation, and sound bytes."

"This is quite an ambitious album. Palkoski (formerly known as the 7th Gate) have put out the Welcome to Sky Valley of grindcore experiences. Their new album, The Oblivious Ape (Who Covets Its Own) is one half hour long track of Enemy Soil having a severe nervous breakdown with psychotic screaming/growling vocals from madman Kerch (the man of a million bands), frantic blast beats, hyper intensive snare drum surgery, crusty grind riffs, blackened tremolo licks, chimes, flute, synths, jazzy Zappa-esque interludes with spoken word, Middle Eastern flavor, noise, clean guitars, schizophrenia, dementia, disassociation, multiple personality disorder, and a partridge in a pear tree. "

Palkoski, formally known as The Seventh Gate (2000-2010), an avant garde extreme metal band with harsh noise accompaniments, is hitting the road in support of their 6th full length album, The Oblivious Ape Who Covets Its Own. The Oblivious Ape focuses on our character during the ages of 17-24 as he is becoming aware that his mind is in fractions. It is an effort dedicated specifically to those suffering from Multiple Personality Disorder (MPD) and their loved ones. The Oblivious Ape is also a triumphant declaration of perseverance for any victim of child abuse.

This release will be available for purchase on the tour. The digipak release will contain two Palkoski records in one.

You can also contact us at facebook.com/frank.palkoski or info@heavyhound.com.

For our tour, we're hoping to earn $100 per night, which can be easy at 20 heads/$5 per person, and a place to crash if possible. We're totally stoked about house shows and collecting donations if you can hook that up. Palkoski is brutal and weird metal; an avant garde blend with no respect for genre elitism or scene politics - check us out for yourself at the link below! We're down to play with any/all forms of heavy music; crust/punk, death metal, noise, grind, etc.

After a 3 year stint with Palkoski, drummer Skip Marimow will be stepping away from percussive duties in the chaotic grindesque trio. During his tenure between the band released:

Fall 2009 – Shamans of Luciferian Misanthropy EP
Spring 2010 – Cogito Ergo Doleo - The Horrors of the Divided Mind (split with Concrete Icon - http://www.myspace.com/concreteicon)
Fall 2010 – Random Antagonist Complex (HH004)

His departure from the band will be after the current studio effort is completed and after a few upcoming shows in support of Rat Babies.

Palkoski is actively searching for a replacement; looking for someone with extreme creative enthusiasm for blisteringly extreme results.

I don't have a catch phrase kind of thing, but the main purpose of
DCHeavyMetal.com is to let people know about live metal in the area.
I want people to know about all the cool shows coming to town, and all
the cool bands in the area, and actually get off their asses and
head out to some of these concerts!

Also, I have a friend that runs a simple but cool site called DCShowList.com
and you should sent them any upcoming concert info. It covers all concerts
in the area, not just metal, but it's pretty cool.

Easy Explanations Not Always So Easy (Palkoski - RANDOM ANTAGONIST COMPLEX album review)

(photo credit: Helena Goldberg, March 7, 2011, So Addictive)

The title of the review is how I felt after delving into this record for the first time.
I had a general idea of what happened during the aural experience, but wasn’t able to put it down on paper.

The Seventh Gate returns with their fifth, and final, record before they changed into the group
now known as Palkoski. The record is about a man named Frank Palkoski, a man with nine different personalities
that all speak to him.

For The Seventh Gate, each record has been more abrasive than the one prior, and this is absolutely no exception.
Titled Random Antagonist Complex, each word is a perfect description of this record.
A lot of it’s structuring is complex, and an uneducated listener would find it extremely random.
Not only that, but the music feels extremely antagonistic and harsh, especially towards the end.

It’s worth noting, real quick, that this is the first full-length that drummer Skip has
appeared/written on. He doe not let down in the slightest. His writing matches the
attitude, mood and personalities of the music. His writing is akin to that of Ryan Parrish,
drummer for Darkest Hour, circa the Hidden Hands of a Sadist Nation album: Wildly creative,
relentless, driven with exertion and looking to not be caught within and boundaries.

The record opens with distorted and layered noise, and then for the first four or five minutes,
The Seventh Gate does what they’re best known for: chaotic and abusive grind. Then the music
delves into something a bit unfamiliar. For returning fans, it’s a similar experience to
listening to The Seventh Gates “Stoners Jam,” (from their record AOTTMLHDYETP?) ambient and
expansive. It would seem they’re experimenting with other styles of music, in a very minimal way.
When “The Drugs they gave me…” hits, the vocals become like a chant, and the listener may
feel like they’re experiencing multiple voices speaking to them, like Palkoski. But the track
breaks into “For those of you not Invited to my Funeral,” which, while retaining
elements from “The Drugs they gave me…” and meshing them well, breaks back into the ferocious
heaviness of The Seventh Gate.

This isn’t the last of experimentation that we’ll see on the record. There’s no shortage of
chaos here, though. The record heads right back into pummeling the listener’s head into mush.
Then we get to “WJW4MOYL.” Not unlike Black Sabbath’s “Planet Caravan.” It has a large
soundscape for the listener to explore, while there are main ideas being presented in the
forefront of the production. As soon as it ends hell is unleashed and contained,
once again, as soon as it jumps out. “Microscopic Humanity” is not unlike “WJW4MOYL”,
it has a broad soundscape, but is much more concise and to the point. “An Urgency
for the Uninvolved” opens with a really disturbed sounding guitar part, and continues that,
albeit being distorted. It’s here where the record really takes shape, though. The rest of
the record continues with this mood. Uncomfortable dissonance, psychotic vocals, and
drawn out structure become prominent for the rest of the record. It’s as if
all of Palkoski's voices are yelling at him, convoluted into one giant mess of noise and disdain.
Every “voice” becomes more antagonizing as the record draws to a close. This is the sound of insanity.

Respect the Neck,
Brendan McAloon

first pressing; 10 copies

In a basement rehearsal space on October 14th, 2000, a band then known as The Seventh Gate, wrote their first song(s). Ten years later this band would then
become known as Palkoski. Frank Palkoski was a character who was “born” in 2005. Several releases by The Seventh Gate after 2006 were written from a
point of view involving the character(s), Frank Palkoski. Frank Palkoski is a tortured man, owning nine uniquely identifiable personalities, some which
converse simultaneous inside his head, some which only appear individually. The entire concept of writing music from inside his point of view grew from
lyrical flirtations to full on character perspective, both lyrically and instrumentally. The music Palkoski writes is the sound track of Frank
Palkoski's existence; chaos, instability and dreadful apprehension united with moments of crushing momentum. The three members of Palkoski reflect this in
the way the guitar, voice and drums echo one or more of an assigned character at all times, intertwining in a demented fashion to give you a glimpse
of the insanity that is Frank Palkoski's. The layering and placement of the vocals are intentional to represent the different personalities and voices
inside Frank Palkoski's mind. Palkoski's releases weave exact moments by compounding the stories again and again through each release, much like a comic
book , a well done mystery series or real life; linking different events and people together on a deep and sophisticated string. That string assures that
upon every replay of a Palkoski release, an epiphany of the unfolding tale of Frank Palkoski may occur. Palkoski's (approach) is a truly unique one to
composing, performance and methodology. Random Antagonist Complex is the final release that The Seventh Gate put out, and is the first full on effort to
represent with exact and definite clarity the character collection within Frank Palkoski - originally self re-leased. A limited hand numbered 60 copies were
made by the band for the CD release show with Cattle Decapitation and Devourment in Baltimore, MD . It is available here now through Heavy Hound,
re-issued for those of you who dare punish yourself with this beautiful gluttony of painful listening experience.
